Upcoming Trail Runs
Ft. Steilacoom 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, Marathon and 50K Trail Run
May 5th, 2011 in Lakewood, Washington
Ft. Steilacoom Park, located just south of Tacoma, Washington is an urban park in the Pacific Northwest with hundreds of trails crisscrossing through open fields, lakes, forests and grasslands. The courses are fast with not a lot of climb, and feature a great variety of trails, terrain and vegetation. Last October's Trail Run was a huge success with over 300 happy runners, and lots of great, positive comments on the great trails and variety of terrain. Pictures from last year's run can be found here.
We offer 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon (13.1 Mile), Marathon (26.2 Mile) and 50K options . There will be plenty of aid stations and the courses are well marked with signs at intersections. The courses start and finish at the main Ft. Steilacoom Shelter.
For you history buffs out there, Ft. Steilacoom was constructed in 1849 and played a significant role in the settling of Washington Territory. The Fort is still there today and open for tours, and here's some information if you'd like to check it out.

The terrain at Ft.Steilacoom, albeit a small park, is one of the most versatile in the Northwest, with open grasslands, flat walking trails around Waughop Lake, alder walkways and deep forest singletrack.
5K loop is marked in Blue. 10 Mile loop is Blue and Red loops combined.
5K will do one Blue loop (175 feet of gain)
10K will do two Blue loops (350 feet of gain)
Half Marathon will do a Blue loop, a Red 6.9 Mile loop, then a Blue loop (900 feet of elevatin gain)
Marathon will do the Half-Marathon twice, (1800 feet of elevation gain)
50K will do the 10 Mile loop (Blue 5K loop and Red 6.9 Mile loop) three times (2,450 feet of elevation gain)
These courses are on mostly fast terrain, and incorporate almost all the trails that Steilacoom has to offer. We largely followed the same courses designed by Kevin Reinkensmeyer for the off-road duathlon used in January and February 2011.
General
Read about how we keep the races green here.
We are dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors, and we encourage you to "leave no trace behind" by taking all trash with you. The park rangers always appreciate it when racers follow the marked course and keep the trails clean, and they are much more likely to grant permission for us to put on races at the same location if the trails are kept in good condition.
The trails will be open to other users during the event such as hikers and mountain bikers. Please be courteous, you will unlikely encounter more than a few. Please let other participants pass you if they want to get by. It is a passing runner's job to tell the person in front that they wish to pass.
For refunds/cancellations please see our policy.
