Upcoming Trail Runs
Soaring Eagle 5 Mile, 10 Mile, Marathon & 50K Trail Run
(tentative) September 22, 2012 in Sammamish, Washington
Registration opens spring 2012
Right in Sammamish, Soaring Eagle is a popular destination for runners and hikers alike with easy-to-access trail heads. All courses will start from the wide and comfortable, woodchip-covered Pipeline Trail, which leads to a multitude of singletrack trails.
We'll have ample course marking out there, including arrows at intersections. The distances offered are 5 Mile, 10 Mile, Marathon and 50K. For views of the trails, check out pictures by Glenn Tachiyama from previous years.
A fully stocked Aid Station at Mile 4, and one at the Start/Finish will give runners plenty of places to fuel up. We will have water, Nuun, PBJ sandwiches, organic fruit, cookies, pretzels and more. And as always there will be pizza, chocolate and organic vegetable soup, plus other goodies after the race.
Looking forward to seeing you out there!

Course Map
5 Mile Course
The 5 Mile course is a figure 8, and you will run to the aid station at mile 4 before returning to the Start/Finish via the broad main trail. Elevation gain is 470 feet, mostly on rolling singletrack trails.
Soaring Eagle Regional Park is 600 acres of mature forests, wetlands, and wildlife habitat. This natural area provides sanctuary for black bear, bobcat, black tail deer and more than 40 species of birds. There are twelve miles of trails that are regularly used by hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The Pipeline Trail that crosses through the park is wide and flat – in fact, it is quite common to see families with baby strollers out enjoying the trail. Soaring Eagle is also popular for trail running competitions. King County Parks partners with groups like Friends of Soaring Eagle, the Boy Scouts, and hiking and biking enthusiasts, who volunteer to help us maintain the trails and preserve the park’s natural heritage.
10 Mile Course

The 10 Mile Course uses pretty much the entire park in a larger circumnavigation. Elevation gain is 1,140 feet, mostly on rolling singletrack trails.

Marathon and 50K Course
Both the Marathon and 50K use multiples of the loops described above. Marathon (2x10 Mile, 1x5.1 Mile, and 1x1.1 Mile) and 50K (3x10Mi and 1.1Mi). The courses are very well marked and signs are posted at intersections. The elevation gain for the marathon is 2750 feet, the 50K is 3400 feet.
General
Read about how we keep the races green here.
We are dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors, and we encourage you to "leave no trace behind" by taking all trash with you. The park rangers always appreciate it when racers follow the marked course and keep the trails clean, and they are much more likely to grant permission for us to put on races at the same location if the trails are kept in good condition.
The trails will be open to other users during the event, including equestrians (allowed on the trails but seldom encountered), pedestrians and cyclists. Horses do have the right of way, and if you encounter a horse in your path, stop running, step off the path, and let the horse past, unless the rider tells you that it is okay to walk past. Please be courteous. Where the trails are narrow, please let other participants pass you if they want to get by. It is a passing runner's job to tell the person in front that they wish to pass.
The course, particularly the 10Mile, Marathon and 50K sections have some rough and rooty sections, and after rain storms, can accumulate large deep puddles. Please be careful when you proceed. Participants are responsible for their own safety. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1, should you decide to bring a cellphone, most areas of Soaring Eagle Park have reception. We will also have volunteers at mile 4 (Aid Station) and we will sweep the course. You must notify an event organizer or volunteer if you decide to quit since we need to ensure all participants have safely returned after the event.
For refunds/cancellations please see our policy.
