Larrabee Lakes
This race is quickly becoming a classic in the Evergreen Trail Series. We are very grateful for the opportunity to produce this event for all of you in beautiful Larrabee State Park. You will get to enjoy smooth trails that wind through beautiful, lush green forests and bring you past picturesque lakes. The unique geology of Larrabee means you’ll also get great views from atop narrow ridgelines that have been bent and molded by time. The peek-a-boo views of Mt. Baker and Bellingham Bay mean you get to enjoy both the shady green forest and beautiful ridgeline views of the Cascades and the ocean, all at the same time!
All distances will start and finish at Fairhaven Park and start towards Larrabee State Park on the Interurban Trail. After the short warm-up on the interurban trail, the real fun (challenge?) begins. This is a tough race with a significant amount of elevation gain. After a steady climb through Aroyo Park, the 12k runners head back toward the finish line while the 25k and 50k runners continue the journey. The longer distance runners continue on up the Lost Lake Trail before the 50k runners wave goodbye and leave for a strenuous out-and-back to the Pine and Cedar (formerly named Samish) Aid Station. The 25k runners head up the stairs (yup, you read that right!) to the infamous ridge trail to tackle these technical ups and downs before heading back through Aroyo park to the finish. Meanwhile, the 50k runners will make the epic climb from Lake Samish Drive up and over the ridge and down to the Interurban Trail on the west side of the Chuckanuts. Then, you guessed it, it’s back UP! The 50k runners then finally rejoin the 25k course along the ridge. We hope you left some gas in your tank to tackle those punchy climbs and drops along the ridge!
Finishers will be awarded a unique, handcrafted race award by our very own Porter Bratten. You’ll want to race just for this!

Course Notes
While all of the courses for each distance overlap, they will split off from each other and come back together at different points. So make sure you pay attention to the course markings and follow the signs for your correct distance.
The race will start from Fairhaven Park, where you’ll begin with a nice warmup and a gradual climb and descent towards the Bellingham Interurban trail. Once on the Interurban Trail, you’ll then head south towards the north entrance of Larrabee State Park. That’s where the fun really begins, and you start the climb toward the first ridgeline. At the top, the 12k runners then turn around and head back towards the finish line. The 25k and 50k courses continue, along a winding forested singletrack. The 25k then continues along the Lost Lake Trail while the 50k course begins a long descent to Old Samish Rd. After a stop at the Pine and Cedar Aid Station, the 50k runners then climb back up to enjoy a lap around Cedar Lake and views from Chuckanut Mountain before rejoining the 25k course.
The smooth single track will then take runners past Lost Lake, where the 25k and 50k courses split up again. The 25k runners will head straight up to the ridge to enjoy an amazing, fun descent down Ridge Trail and back to the Finish Line. The 50k runners will head down towards Lost Lake Parking area and onto the Interurban Trail, running north before beginning another climb up Cleator Road and then Two Dollar Trail past beautiful Fragrance Lake. Expect a rugged and steep climb to the ridge after Fragrance Lake. Then take a breather and get a snack at the Rock Trail Aid Station before (finally) flying down Ridge Trail and back to the Finish Line.
The trails will be open to other users during the event, including equestrians, pedestrians and cyclists. See our FAQ page for more information about sharing the trails.
The course features rough, steep, and rocky sections. Be careful when you proceed. Please read our section on the FAQ page regarding safety – it talks about what to do if you get lost or hurt.

HOW WE ARE HELPING SAVE THE PLANET
There are no higher stakes than being kind to the earth; we care deeply about keeping our planet viable for the next generation.
To that end, we organize our events with an eye towards minimizing our impact on the planet. Read more here.

Buy a Tree Not a Tee
Trees not Tees help events reduce their environmental impact with one simple strategy – offering participants the choice of buying and planting a tree instead of a race tee.
Evergreen Trail Runs is partnering with Trees not Tees to help reduce the huge number of unwanted and unworn finisher’s tees produced each year and destined to become landfill.
After the event, participants who selected the option to have a tree planted receive a photo and GPS coordinates of their tree’s location.
