Lord Hill

The Evergreen running season starts at Lord Hill!

Lord Hill Park has been a favorite early-season trail run for many runners, and 2024 will mark the race’s 19th year! Lord Hill Park is a regional country park nestled in Snohomish, Washington. With over 1,300 acres of wilderness, you could spend all day getting lost on miles of trails, but don’t worry, for this race we will keep you on the right course.

Course distances available are 5K, 10M, 20M, and 50K – pick your poison!

Due to limited parking, all 5k and 10-mile runners will park off-site at Monroe Highschool and utilize our free shuttle that will run continuously throughout the race.

Finishers will also be awarded a unique, handcrafted race award by our very own Porter Bratten. You’ll want to race just for this!

Woodland Speeders Kid’s Races

As part of our new Woodland Speeders program, we offer free kid’s races at all of our events. Parents are welcome to run with their kiddos. You can register your child during the registration process for your own race, or sign them up later. Distances vary and are approximate, but we aim for about 1K in distance. See the schedule below for start time. The course at Lord Hill for kids is a singletrack trail with minimal elevation gain and is 0.9 mile long.

Detailed Race Description

Lord Hill has got some of it all! Hills, neon greenery, buttery trails, creek crossings, excitement, and definitely some mud!

The 10M course will start off from the parking lot and immediately head up a steep hill. It’ll level off, and you’ll think you’re in the clear, until you round a corner and see Lord Hill, and that’s when you go, “Oh Lord!”. But after the initial climbs, the course levels off and you’ll be treated to some great, but wet trails (it is February after all!). You’ll have a fun quick creek crossing, get some views of the lake, and descend some easier trails towards the north end of the park.

A quick out-and-back climb takes you up to the North Entrance Aid Station for refreshments. Back on the course, you’ll traverse the side of Devils Butte. A short, steep descent will take you down to a canyon, which you’ll next get to climb out of. Eventually, you’re back on the midway trail and back to the finish before you know it! The overall lap is about 10.3 miles, so will be about 30.9 for the 50K.

For those of you doing the 5k, don’t worry that you’re missing out! You still get to run/hike/crawl up Lord Hill too. Soon after the climb, the course will veer off the 10M, and relink back up with it on the Midway Trail. From there, it is a muddy but fun descent back to the Snohomish River and the finish!

We Welcome All

Committed to Making All Feel Welcome

Evergreen Trail Runs is making a new effort to make sure that everyone feels welcome and safe at our running events and in our trail running community. There is space for all on the trails. We have a non-binary registration option and a non-binary category for overall awards.

If you have a suggestion or idea for how we can improve our events in this regard, please let us know!

Race Notes:

There are two separate courses for this race: one course for the 5K runners and another course for the 10M, 20M and 50K runners. For the longer distance runners, 10M is one loop of the course, 20M is two loops and 50K is three loops. The courses will be well marked with streamers and arrows at intersections, so you don’t accidentally go off course and run further than you bargained for.

The trails will be open to other users during the event, including equestrians, pedestrians and cyclists. See our FAQ page for more information about sharing the trails.

The course features rough, rocky sections, and a couple of slippery bridges. Be careful when you proceed. Please read our section on the FAQ page regarding safety – it talks about what to do if you get lost or hurt.

There will be aid stations throughout the course with volunteers to help, food to eat and hydration to refuel. And of course, there will be an assortment of yummy food and treats waiting for you at the finish line.

This is a cupless race. All runners should carry with them a refillable container that they can run with. There will be a limited number of cups for emergency situations.
