Lord Hill

The Evergreen running season starts at Lord Hill!

Lord Hill Park has been a favorite early-season trail run for many runners, and 2025 marked the race’s 20th year! Lord Hill Park is a regional county park nestled in Snohomish, Washington. With over 1,300 acres of wilderness. You could spend all day getting lost on miles of trails, but don’t worry, for this race we will keep you on the right course.

Course distances available are 5K, 10M, 20M, and 50K – pick your poison!

Due to limited parking, all 5k and 10-mile runners will park off-site at Monroe Highschool and utilize our free shuttle that will run continuously throughout the race.

Finishers will also be awarded a unique, handcrafted race award by our very own Porter Bratten. You’ll want to race just for this!

Race Overview

Lord Hill has got it all! Hills, neon greenery, buttery trails, creek crossings, excitement, and definitely some mud!

The 10M course will start off from the parking lot and immediately head up a steep hill. It’ll level off, and you’ll think you’re in the clear, until you round a corner and see Lord Hill, and that’s when you go, “Oh Lord!”. But after the initial climbs, the course levels off and you’ll be treated to some great, but wet trails (it is February after all!). You’ll have a fun quick creek crossing, some views of the lake, and a descent on some easier trails towards the north end of the park.

A quick out-and-back climb takes you up to the North Entrance Aid Station for refreshments. Back on the course, you’ll traverse the side of Devils Butte. A short, steep descent will take you down to a canyon, which you’ll next get to climb out of. Eventually, you’re back on the midway trail and to the finish before you know it! The overall lap is about 10.3 miles, so will be about 30.9 for the 50K.

For those of you doing the 5k, don’t worry that you’re missing out! You still get to run/hike/crawl up Lord Hill, too! Soon after the climb, the course will veer off from the 10M and relink back up with it on the Midway Trail. From there, it is a muddy but fun descent back to the Snohomish River and the finish!

Course Notes

Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, this race packs a punch! The course starts with all distances climbing “the hill,” and just when you think you’re at the top, you round the corner and “Oh Lord” there is more! After the big climb, our 5K runners peel off into the forest to return to the finish line. The 10M, 20M, and 50K runners continue on a larger loop. Most of your elevation is taken care of in that first hill, so you’ll flow through beautiful forests on undulating trails before a short, but technical descent back to the finish. The 20-mile and 50k courses repeat the 10-mile loop 2 or 3 times, respectively. The courses will be well marked with streamers and arrows at intersections, so you don’t accidentally go off course and run further than you bargained for.

The course features rough, rocky sections, and a couple of slippery bridges. Please read our section on the FAQ page regarding safety – it talks about what to do if you get lost or hurt.

The trails will be open to other users during the event, including equestrians, pedestrians and cyclists. See our FAQ page for more information about sharing the trails.

Environmentally Responsible Racing

Washington Trails Association

Evergreen Trail Runs wants to do all we can to support our local PNW community. That’s why all of the Evergreen races support the Washington Trails Association. Both Evergreen and the WTA support environmental stewardship and the protection of our public lands.

Buy a Tree Not a Tee

Trees not Tees help events reduce their environmental impact with one simple strategy – offering participants the choice of buying and planting a tree instead of a race tee.

Evergreen Trail Runs is partnering with Trees not Tees to help reduce the huge number of unwanted and unworn finisher’s tees produced each year and destined to become landfill.

After the event, participants who selected the option to have a tree planted receive a photo and GPS coordinates of their tree’s location.
